The suction cups shown above appear to be the same ones that came with my dome-that do not work? The Amazon link takes you to a suction cup thats currently unavailable. Still looking for a good alternative?

Thanks so much for your note. We did buy some of the large Inter Design power lock suction cups and I think they will work great. In fact, I attached one to the side of an upright freezer in our garage and had one heck of a time getting it to loose it's grip. We have our R-179 up for sale as we just bought the new R-180. We're keeping the R-Dome and will be using the cups on the new trailer. Have a great 4th.

I was told to soak the suction cups in hot water just before using.

Are there some written instructions and youtube instructions on how to put it on a 178. I have arthritis in both hands and will be having my hubbie help me...needs visual. Thanks.

Still have ours in a bag.. just couldn't get up the gumption to poke all them holes in our new pod.. still can't after 5 seasons. We honestly were never really bothered by the flap issue, and only use the suction cups to control the tapping noise of the grommets on breezy nights.

I have experienced the same issues with my original suction cups.  Looks like the power lock suction cup might be a good alternative.  Will, have to wait for next spring to try them.  The pod is hibernating :(
Thanks and Happy Camping!

many use the smaller of these two, we use the larger for towels and such..

For the dome now days, we use these...
They have held in some pretty stiff winds, we use bungies to attach to the hook. You want to watch for a sale, we paid $20 for 8 of them..

Nomad2010, We purchased our 179 in September. We have a 26" Terry Resort that we have used constantly since we bought it new in '08. I bought a dandy Coleman Bayside tent trailer that "I" could use for hunting and fishing in the summer. There are many places where the Terry is great, but back in the hills, not so good. I sold the tent trailer, because I couldn't get my wife to go with me (no bathroom or shower). I understand her on these two points. Guys can do without, girls may have a problem. We had checked out the Hood River 179 and fell in love with it. The perfect hunting/fishing camp for me and the high country camping both my wife and I love, and we can pull it easily with her pickup and mine. The only problem has been with the R-Dome. The fit is perfect, but those suction cups are appropriately named, because they do suck and not in the way they are supposed to.

Now to furpod,

If you and everyone else has a better suction cup, what is your recommendation and where do I buy it?

I appreciate all the input.

Get better suction cups. Nearly everybody does after 1 weekend with the stock ones.
