Dometic Cabana, 13 foot. That is the right one. They are mildly generic.

it is the right one as Furpod said.  and that does happen with 179's we've seen.  they just fit weird cause of the weird shape of your Pod.

We have a 179 with r-dome also.  We haven't tried it yet. But it is a "Dometric Cabana - Lightweight RV Dome Awning" Model 747FGN13.102.  We'll be putting it up this week-end for dry run.

We did a dry run set up with the r dome on our maiden trip last week with our 179 HRE.  The Dometic r dome came with our unit when we purchased it.  I agree with other comments on this post, the fit is just weird.  The length of the roof attachment section if at least 18" longer than the track.  I am also assuming that the pronounced slope of the side walls is probably due to the height of the HRE with the risers.  We didn't really try to attach the sides using the suction hooks because the wind picked up but I could see there would probably be some fit questions there also.  Good luck on your trial run.

I to have the 179 and the R-dome hangs out about a foot or so past the the track.  As stated above it doesn't fit that great but I used it for a 5 day trip and really enjoyed the extra space.  The sides come down and cover part of the windows and the external storage compartment and that is a bit of a pain.  I may try to get a few more of the suction cups as it needs a few more.

dometic maes 4 different sizes...10'-13'.  wonder why they don't give us the correct size?  thanks for all the help

Because there isn't really a correct size. they are a generic product actually designed for popups. An 11 footer would be to short and the sides wouldn't be down near the ground the way they should.

I'd rather too long than too short.  I wish mine covered my windows like that so they could be open in the rain, for starters.  More room inside the dome, too.

Geez., ours covers the 178 clear to the ends & the suction cups are on the roof at each end. we can open the storage doors without messing with the dome. The first time that we installed it, the fit was like the picture shows. The next time I shortened up the strap across the ground & everything seemed to fit very well. Its been that way the other 2 times that we have put it up. Now if the suction cups would stick better...

Have a 182G with the dome. It is also about 6 inches too long but works just fine. We enjoy having the extra space.

Our R-Dome is too small for the 2015 178.  The part that attaches to the pod is lifted off the ground thus negating the bug deterrent.  Has anyone modified their Dome by adding fabric?  I know we're not about to remove the risers.

We have a 179 HRE and the dome does hang down about a foot off each end. We haven't had any problems with the sod cloth and side panels laying flat on the ground though. Everything works fine except those stupid suction cuts. They are as worthless as teeth on a chicken. Even in the slightest breeze, they either unhook, open up or fall off. As much as I hate to drill holes and screw something to the outside of the pod, I may try to find some of the screw on tabs, originally used on the R-Dome. I've not had any experience with these, but by design, they look like they would be far more secure. Any thoughts?

I've had moderate success with the suction cups but think I may get the dome sides lengthen to better fit the 179HRE and come closer to the ground.  Just not sure how to get it done without costing a fortune.  Putting permanent hooks for the dome would make the whole setup more secure.

Get better suction cups. Nearly everybody does after 1 weekend with the stock ones.

Nomad2010, We purchased our 179 in September. We have a 26" Terry Resort that we have used constantly since we bought it new in '08. I bought a dandy Coleman Bayside tent trailer that "I" could use for hunting and fishing in the summer. There are many places where the Terry is great, but back in the hills, not so good. I sold the tent trailer, because I couldn't get my wife to go with me (no bathroom or shower). I understand her on these two points. Guys can do without, girls may have a problem. We had checked out the Hood River 179 and fell in love with it. The perfect hunting/fishing camp for me and the high country camping both my wife and I love, and we can pull it easily with her pickup and mine. The only problem has been with the R-Dome. The fit is perfect, but those suction cups are appropriately named, because they do suck and not in the way they are supposed to.

Now to furpod,

If you and everyone else has a better suction cup, what is your recommendation and where do I buy it?

I appreciate all the input.

many use the smaller of these two, we use the larger for towels and such..

For the dome now days, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H38RRHQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 - we use these...
They have held in some pretty stiff winds, we use bungies to attach to the hook. You want to watch for a sale, we paid $20 for 8 of them..

I have experienced the same issues with my original suction cups.  Looks like the power lock suction cup might be a good alternative.  Will, have to wait for next spring to try them.  The pod is hibernating :(

Stay away from the original screw-on tabs.  I hated them.

Still have ours in a bag.. just couldn't get up the gumption to poke all them holes in our new pod.. still can't after 5 seasons. We honestly were never really bothered by the flap issue, and only use the suction cups to control the tapping noise of the grommets on breezy nights.

I was told to soak the suction cups in hot water just before using.

Are there some written instructions and youtube instructions on how to put it on a 178. I have arthritis in both hands and will be having my hubbie help me...needs visual. Thanks.

Thanks so much for your note. We did buy some of the large Inter Design power lock suction cups and I think they will work great. In fact, I attached one to the side of an upright freezer in our garage and had one heck of a time getting it to loose it's grip. We have our R-179 up for sale as we just bought the new R-180. We're keeping the R-Dome and will be using the cups on the new trailer. Have a great 4th.

The suction cups shown above appear to be the same ones that came with my dome-that do not work? The Amazon link takes you to a suction cup thats currently unavailable. Still looking for a good alternative?
