I'll have to go and take a picture of my 12v Jensen TV that came with my 181g tonight. I'll see if I have the model number on it as well.

Received another email from Jansen - quote-
"I apologize for the inconvenience but the JE1914 is an AC only TV and will not work on 12VDC. The sticker you see attached is incorrect and was placed on the wrong TV. This issue has been addressed and corrected at our manufacturing facility." Emphasis in red is mine. Just for grins- I'm going to ask them to swap out my tv since it was their mistake in labeling, not holding my breath though.. I do plan on installing my SunForce* 1000w pure sine invertor as I'll need it for my CPAP machine at night when dry camping, which is 98% of use. So in the rare occasions we actually watch tv when camping I'll be able to power it anyway. *Beware if you buy a Sunforce- works great when it works, however my first one developed a problem after a year, and they were very slow to get it handled. Sent it to them and then months went by. Since it had a 2 year warranty they did finally replace it, after repeated phone calls and emails. Was actually going to buy their much larger unit 3000 watt as well, but not now. |

Can't hurt to try to get a swap!
Rule of thumb for inverters - once you get above 1000 watts you want to switch to 24 or 48 volts. At 1000 watts the load is over 80 amps @ 12 volts. That takes some seriously thick wiring to prevent a voltage drop even over short distances. For comparison a 3000 watt load @ 48 volts is a little over 60 amps.

With regard to CPAP, I have mentioned before I use a ResMed s8 which allows for 12 volt operation sans humidifier. You could make your own adapter or buy http://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed-dc-12-converter-s8-machines.html
Good discussion: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t9828/Using-a-Resmed-S8-on-12V-power.html
It only has a 1.5 amp draw so it's very easy on the batteries. That, with a small inverter ( I use a 120 watt one ) for TV and charging laptop(s) it's not a lot of drain. Hope that helps. fred |

That reminds me, that's another reason to use a smaller inverter when possible - the standby load of the inverter itself is always smaller with a smaller inverter. I follow this at home with generators during outages. My big 12 kw generator only runs for my water heater and well pump, the other 22-23 hours a day I use something much more efficient.

I've wondered that about standby load on inverters. I guess that's why most of the good larger inverters have a remote to turn them off.
At home I was hoping to do as you suggest, using my 12kw Generac when needed for well and furnace and the pod Yamaha 2400 for "off-peak". I spoke with my electrician who installed my transfer switch and 50A outdoor connector. I think it was Charlie who first suggested "it's not a plug and play solution" as I thought it might be or it was you. He/you were right. There's always extension cords...or male-male suicide connector from Yamaha generator. Really, I promise I won't do that! fred

Heard back from Jensen re: my request to swap the tv since it was mislabeled.-
NOPE.
Not their fault (they say) since FR elected to put a 110VAC tv in a camper, never mind that Jensen mislabeled it....

Just for grins stopped at my dealer this morning- they had a 2015 179 on the lot.
Guess what? Has a Jensen TV labeled 12V just like mine- same TV, 110VAC only |
