I had no idea that some tracks are plastic.  I though they were all aluminum.

I thought they were all aluminum, too.  Never seen one on other campers (popups) which weren't AL, either.

Aluminum here.. we have had no trouble with the track, I did, as soon as we brought it home, take a round file to the track opening to make it slide in smoother.

Thanks to all we will try the pre set vice grips since it really seems to be aluminium and post the results.

You probably know this already, but wither tape the jaws of the vice grips with tape or use a piece of cloth around the channel to protect the channel from becoming marred.  I normally just use cloth, but several layers of tape should work better.
