LOL.  Currently reading through a borrowed ARRL Handbook and taking more General practice tests.  Won't be able to test until at least August though.

I was reading through someone's site on mobile HF installations (I'm not planning on mobile HF, just absorbing...) and their section on RV mounting had a pod at the top of the page:

HF mobile is a gas! I have spent hours in traffic jams in conversation (QSO) to exotic places. It beats sitting in the truck getting mad. I have a radio for mobile HF that has dsp, and that helps a bunch. Lots of noise out there!

Maybe you'll talk me into it eventually, but I need a decent HF transceiver at home first.  I'm seriously considering SDR for that.  I like cutting edge.

I have a Ten-Tec Jupiter for home, and use an old fashioned 80 meter flat top dipole fed with ladder line and a roller inductor tuner. I am not a big gun on the DX bands but I rag chew with the best of them.

The Jupiter can be run from software(I normally do) or by twisting knobs like us old timers always had to in the old days.

I've heard good things about Ten Tec.

Definitely not cheap, but for the advantages the Flex-3000 isn't too bad.  It would be nice if it covered all bands and didn't stop at 6m.

We all have our own wants and needs.  i do little on VHF these days.  I used to do a lot on 2M sideband and 6m sideband, but hardly ever go there any more.  It would be a waste for me to have an all band radio.  I do fine on a HF only rig.
