We finally arrived home. In addition to the repairs pictured above, I used Gorilla Tape to cover the damage on the front. It held up well to the travel. I also used some insulating foam to fill in the gaps around the boards on the rear. It sealed everything up nicely on the return trip.

We stopped at Country Roads RV Center in Lexington, NC. This is the dealer from which we purchased our escaPOD. I also sent the pictures I had taken of the damage before it was covered. They will do a preliminary estimate and determine if it can be fixed. The damage does not seem like much, but it does involve all sides of the Pod with the back and right being the worst. We really could not see what the damage is to the front until we can get it unloaded and get access to the front side under the bed.

I will expect a call so we can schedule a time for me to bring it in to drop off for repairs. In preparation for that, I am removing a lot of the customizations I have done. I was told that it it is totaled, then everything in it would go with it. I want to save things like the kitchen faucet I installed (I will have to leave the sink), the Oxygenics shower head, the shelves and lights, the electric jack, the generator rack, and the BAL underbody spare tire carrier. This is not an exhaustive list. I will be busy for the next few days getting it ready to go.

I do not want to send my dual 6V batteries, so I am looking for an inexpensive 12V battery to have so the brakes will be powered if the trailer becomes disconnected. I was looking at a 12V garden tractor battery at Walmart. It is not a deep-cycle battery, but I think it would be adequate for taking the trailer up and back. Does this sound like a good idea? The one I am considering is the Everstart U1R which sells for $19.87 (plus core charge).

I did some more patching today. I think I have it close being able to make the trip back to NC. I want to address the front corner which was not as severely damaged, but is nonetheless damaged enough that I don't want to tow it home until I get at least some Gorilla tape over the cracked places. I need to wait for it to be dry again so that the tape will stick.

The repairs so far are with 1/4" lauan p[lywood treated with three coats of polyurethane sealer on both sides.  These are over the top of the Gorilla tape I applied earlier. I got two side-marker lights at Camping World. I used the amber lens from the one to replace the missing one. I had to replace the red marker light fixture as it was broken along with the taillight.  We are blessed that the frame was not affected, so we will be able to get it home and then see about proper repairs.

I need to replace two side-marker light covers that were lost in the accident. I should be able to get them (or replacement lights as a unit) from the Camping World or another RV dealer in the Salt Lake City area.

There is a company called State Trailer Supply that is here in the SLC area.  3600 S Redwood Rd.  They are probably the local favorite for all things trailer, both travel and cargo.  They have a wide selection of all parts, much more than you would find at Camping World. With all the "modding" you do, you will feel like a kid in a   candy store.  I believe they do repairs as well.  Glad to hear you are getting your rig back together..

My son-in-law went with me today to bring our pod home to our daughter's house. We retrieved it from the tow yard today. It was later than we thought because I was waiting on UPS to deliver the cable wiring harness to connect the Hopkins controller. I removed the controller from the Escape and temporarily installed it in the Frontier so we could get to my daughter's house. I'll do a better job of mounting it when I have time, especially before we leave for the next leg of our trip.

We also did some temporary repairs. This involved screwing a piece of plywood over the Gorilla taped hole on the side and installing a replacement taillight. I'll get pictures tomorrow. I need to do more patching before we travel much more.

We did not have the time to set up the Equal-i-zer hitch. We had to tow without the bars in place which made the hitch like a plain ball with no weight distribution and no sway control. I will definitely be setting up the hitch tomorrow  because I did not feel comfortable towing without the sway control of the hitch. I limited the speed but still felt some swaying, even though I couldn't see it because it was dark. As far as it goes, the Frontier performed adequately going over the passes in western Wyoming and eastern Utah. It doesn't have quite the same performance of the Escape because it isn't turbocharged. However, it will be nice to only have to use regular gasoline instead of premium.

I need to replace two side-marker light covers that were lost in the accident. I should be able to get them (or replacement lights as a unit) from the Camping World or another RV dealer in the Salt Lake City area.

It was nice meeting Kokopod at the O'Reilley's Auto Parts store in Green River. We were finishing up the controller installation when Kokopod walked up.

I always recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy line. If my old Prodigy (from about 2004) ever dies I'll probably go to the wireless version.
