Topic: Battery acid or distilled water? Posted: 02 Jun 2015 at 8:41pm |
Hi Everyone,
Wondering which I should use to top my battery's cells; battery acid or distilled water? Any comments? I've pasted a link below to the battery acid...

Distilled water. If the batteries have evaporated some of the water, you just need to add it back in, distilled is preferable (no minerals). After you have added (not overfilled) enough, charge the battery fully, then after a few hours off the charger, check the electrolyte strength with a tester. You should be good to go.
If a battery is VERY low on water, it may cause sulfation of the lead plates. After filling with water, you may need to use a special charger that can desulfate the battery if necessary.

You can buy distilled water cheaply at Wal-Mart, I think it is 99 cents per gallon. I used to maintain a large battery bank and went through gallons of it every 6 months.

If you haven't read up on it yet, make sure you are keeping your battery charged properly. Lots of threads here on the topic, including one in the "pod manual", see the link in my signature.
