    We have decided to try and store our extra propane tank in our storage compartment. My question there is a light switch near the location of the propane tank. Is this safe, is it possible if everything went wrong the tank would have to leak propane and the light switch would have to spark. Its unlikely all would happen at the same time but if it did would the electrical spark ignite the propane? Should the two be placed near one another?     Thank you

It would be a lot of worst case scenarios for this to occur, this is merely and opinion though.  

Propane's concentration range is kind of narrow once it mixes with air, less that 2.2% or more than 9.6% vapor to air mix and it won't ignite.

Would the tank be upright?  Definitely don't store it on its side.  Also what are the chances of that compartment getting hot, forcing the tank to vent?

Why not add a two tank rack to the tongue?  Cost me only about $30 to do so, tank is outside where it is safe and no worries about leaks.

   Thank you for your replies. With the Vibe there is not a open tongue for space to store a propane tank. Where I have thought to store it, the tank would be upright not on its side. The storage compartment does not get that warm where I think that would be a problem. The problem would be ventilation, I think I'm running out of options. If I store it in that back of our truck that gets hot and there to could be a problem with temperature. It maybe that their is no option and will have to live with one tank. Never thought about this being a problem but you are not left with much choice having a V-front and no open tongue where generally propane tanks are stored. Unhappy

Dave,

Have you measured the actual temperature in the back of your truck? I think most flat tonneau type covers breath pretty easily. Probably not so for a full topper. When I fill my 20# tanks I carry them standing up in my truck with the cover closed. Just fits. Try measuring the temp in the truck in the sun on a hot day. A remote reading electronic thermometer works great, but any thermometer you can read quickly will do.

Is there room in the Vibe to move up to a 30 or 40 pound tank?  Same diameter, just taller.

   There is no room for a larger tank. I'm shopping for a wireless indoor outdoor thermometer. I think the back of the truck might work out. I wish the refrigerator would work on 12 volts. Would a wireless indoor outdoor thermometer work for the refrigerator too? Does anyone have any recommendations for a thermometer?

Most likely the wireless therms will work for the fridge too. I say "most likely" because every fridge is different. That said, I am using one to periodically check my freezer and I did use one in the RPOD fridge. Most modern fridges have plastic doors so the wireless devices work fine. I have used different models from Acurite. Cheap, available (Wally World, HD, Lowes), and functional. If you can find one with two remote sensors you can monitor fridge and outside temp. And no, you don't want a fridge to run on 12V. It'll suck your
little battery to zero in no time. Either 120V shore power or sip on propane is best.

The lack of expandability for propane and battery was one of the negatives I noted for the Vibes.
