It seems strange- sitting here on the Gulf Coast of Florida- enjoying some cooler, drier fall weather, and wishing everyone in the Northeast luck and safety as Frankenstorm trundles your way. Usually we are apt to be in the crosshairs.
We have relatives in New Jersey, friends in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Also, an ex-wife in Maine- too bad it couldn't all head there! Stay safe everyone.

Crosshairs are right over me as of about noon on Tuesday, according to the storm track shown on the NOAA website. I'm ready to go - extra gas for the Prius (which has been modified to power our house), full tank of propane for the big generator. With winds of 65 mph and us at the end of a 20 mile run from the substation I expect to be without power for quite a while. We always keep extra supplies so we didn't have to make a mad run to the store - although we did need extra candy for the big Halloween campout we attend every year and so we were there anyway on Saturday. An entire aisle of water - gone. Half of the toilet paper was gone, half of the bleach. Surprisingly the milk was all there. Prayers to everyone that will be affected by this. |

Good luck to all Podders. Techntrek, I think you get the award for being the most prepared! We are in upstate NY so our prep was just making sure we had food and water, and getting all potential dead limbs down in surrounding trees and having enough gas for our generator. Stay safe out there!

Latest update puts the eye almost right over us probably around 6 am tomorrow, and now it will still be at hurricane strength even that far inland. We will be sleeping downstairs tonight since our house is surrounded by trees. Our power went out early this time - around 11:30 am - so I've had our alternative power cranked up since then. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/153841.shtml?5-daynl?large#contents |

I was just watching the storm updates on CNN. I hope everyone in the path is okay. We are going to get some rain here in New Brunswick Canada but most of the storm is going inland. I have family in Ontario so I hope they come through this okay. The last time a hurricane hit Ontario was Hazel in 1954.

Looks like most people to the west & south of the eye got off pretty easy, compared to some of the damage farther north. While we lost power fairly early that has been the only major issue for us. I do see one tree that snapped fairly far from our house but it isn't something I need to worry about right now. Hope everyone else is ok.

Made it through the storm with only one branch coming down. Lost power for 20 hours but all is on now. Hope everyone is safe out there!

We are getting wind, but not a drop of rain. An amazing storm that can be on the east coast and in Wisconsin at the same time. We are fine here in Wisconsin, but I worry about those in the East.

Glad all is safe, Podders are a resilient group of well informed strong and prepared people, its all the camping lists we all have made over the years and then started trimming down we dont need, this, and this and pretty soon , you have a mean and lean list, it kinda boils down to survival of the fittest, God bless all. stay safe.

We did OK at my location in Southern-NJ. Only about 3-4 inches of rain and top winds of 68-MPH. Had some tree limbs come down and the power wire detached from the house, due to the wind, but we never lost power. We did get the Jayco home prior to the storm and it and the R-POD did well in the backyard. They both look like someone splattered them with pieces of leaves.
