Inversely, SOC is state of charge. 20% DOD = 80% SOC. Sorry I didn't decode DOD earlier.

DOD, short for the Depth of Discharge, is used to describe how much the battery is discharged

Either way it is a 12 volt system and the batteries function the same, just with more lead mass with the golf cart batts, which gives you more available energy.
The rule of thumb is stay above 50% DOD most of the time, an occasional dip below that is ok but never go below 35% DOD. This is followed with most off-grid solar home systems.

The difference is two 6V batteries will generally give you much more capacity than a single 12V. Even two 12V batteries of the type usually employed (GP24, 27) are less capacity. And it's a fact that individual 2V cells like to be used in series, not parallel. It helps in equalizing the loads.

Giving it some more thought; there is no difference between 1 - 12 volt verses 2 - 6 volts?
