We had a similar issue, but different outcome. After a week long campout in our new 179 the frig started beeping in battery and gas. Went home and tried electric. Still beeping. Stored pod for a week with the battery disconnected. Took it to RV repairman. He couldn't find the problem. Camped a week after that and had no problem. Mechanic and I suspect when I disconnected the battery and all power the fridge reset itself. Welcome to this brilliant group of experience. Happy Trails, Gar

The fix was easy......there is an adjusting nut on the lower part of the bottom door hinge. I adjusted the nut upwards removing the play, and also adjusted the support arm upwards for a snug fit.
No more beeping. As a test I opened the door and left it open. After about 2 minutes the beeping started as it is supposed to. Immediately upon closing the door the beeping now stops. |
I have also had the very same trouble, but, didn't realized the door was adjustable. Thanks for posting this information, very helpful.
Welcome, and congratulations on your RP-179 acquisition!

We had the same beeping. But only after my wife would have the door open & then closed it. It took me a while to realize that the door wasn't latched tight. Which is surprising, because she slams everything else. No further problems.

Thanks for the responses. As an update, the service manager at our closest dealership in Huntsville called Dometic with the model number, product, number and serial number of the refrigerator. Dometic told him that it is a door open alarm, but not related to the catch. They said that there are magnets in the door and in the refrigerator.....when the door is shut the magnets make contact. If the door sags a bit or the magnets get misaligned, the control board sends this audible alarm thinking the door is open.
Dometic is sending him the information on this, and he is going to contact me with the fix. The fridge is a model number RM8501 which I believe has been around for a while, however this apparently is a new feature.
Will keep you posted as to the outcome......thanks again.

Ah, I just skimmed through some manuals and it looks like some models have an audible "door open" alarm, so retireclose hits the nail on the head! The catch inside the fridge can be slid forward to keep the door open a half-inch during storage to prevent mold, but be sure to push it back when you turn the fridge on again.

We had the same problem. Took me a while to figure it out. I pushed the lever(catch) inside the frig forward or backward i can't recall (it made a click) and everything is fine now. I hope this helps.
