Hello to all from Tennessee. We recently switched from our old Scotty to a new RPod 179. Picked it up near the factory in Indiana, and have already pulled it about 3,500 miles through northern Michigan, over to Iowa, and now back home. Tow vehicle is a Toyota Tacoma, 4 liter 6, with the tow package. No problems whatsoever towing, and we averaged 12.5 mpg for the trip.

We love the configuration of the 179.......the slider makes a huge difference and we don't feel crowded at all. After 3,500 incident free miles we arrived home, and while parking it in an enclosed area up by the barn, I ripped the tv antenna off the roof! This was after my wife stated "it doesn't look like it will fit", followed by a confident "no problem" from me. Luckily I was able to find the same antenna new on EBay for a good price and just finished installing it. Just have to call it "stupid" tax.

We ran into only two problems with the 179 so far......one is with the keyless entry, which worked fine initially, and now does not, even with fresh batteries. The other issue is with the refrigerator, and I would be curious to know if any others have had this problem.  On two occasions the refrigerator began beeping. It would beep for about 30 seconds every 2 or 3 minutes, there was no warning alarm on the panel like you get if your gas or electric fails, and the refrigerator was still cooling. It didn't matter if we were on electric or gas. It occurred the first time when we stopped for a few days to visit friends. We set up the camper, unloaded the refrigerator, switched to shore power, and the beeping began. I initially thought it might be the door switch, however, it is functioning perfectly. Shut the refrigerator off for two days, and after turning it back on it was fine.

It occurred again after when we were on the road on a hot day. Stopped for gas and went into the camper and the refrigerator was beeping again. When we stopped for the night, after a few hours the beeping stopped. The refrigerator is a Dometic by the way, and supposed to be a new model.

With it turned up to max cooling it was initially freezing our milk, so we kept it turned down a notch. My thought is that this beeping occurs when the temp inside the refrigerator rises a certain amount. It occurred on warm days, and my opening it up and tinkering with it probably didn't help. The problem is, nobody seems to have heard of this problem, and the two dealerships that I have asked so far are clueless. I called Dometic, and they referred me to my local dealership.

I'm very sorry to be so long-winded here, but I look forward to any comments you might have on the refrigerator. When researching for a new camper, we lurked around a lot in this forum and it was very helpful in making our decision.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Randy and Connie

Welcome.  Everyone here will tell you to take it back to your dealer.  Beeping with no warning message is a malfunction.  The audible alarm must be new, mine doesn't do that.

We had the same problem.  Took me a while to figure it out.  I pushed the lever(catch) inside the frig forward or backward i can't recall (it made a click) and everything is fine now.
I hope this helps.

Ah, I just skimmed through some manuals and it looks like some models have an audible "door open" alarm, so retireclose hits the nail on the head!  The catch inside the fridge can be slid forward to keep the door open a half-inch during storage to prevent mold, but be sure to push it back when you turn the fridge on again.

Thanks for the responses. As an update, the service manager at our closest dealership in Huntsville called Dometic with the model number, product, number and serial number of the refrigerator. Dometic told him that it is a door open alarm, but not related to the catch. They said that there are magnets in the door and in the refrigerator.....when the door is shut the magnets make contact. If the door sags a bit or the magnets get misaligned, the control board sends this audible alarm thinking the door is open.

Dometic is sending him the information on this, and he is going to contact me with the fix. The fridge is a model number RM8501 which I believe has been around for a while, however this apparently is a new feature.

Will keep you posted as to the outcome......thanks again.

We had the same beeping. But only after my wife would have the door open & then closed it. It took me a while to realize that the door wasn't latched tight. Which is surprising, because she slams everything else. No further problems.

Just wanted to post a follow-up. The beeping was the audible "door open" alarm and was caused by a mis-aligned door. The door contact magnets that actuate the alarm are on the upper left portion of the door and body of the refrigerator. When I opened and lifted up on the door I noticed quite a bit of play. The fix was easy......there is an adjusting nut on the lower part of the bottom door hinge. I adjusted the nut upwards removing the play, and also adjusted the support arm upwards for a snug fit.

No more beeping. As a test I opened the door and left it open. After about 2 minutes the beeping started as it is supposed to. Immediately upon closing the door the beeping now stops.

I have also had the very same trouble, but, didn't realized the door was adjustable. Thanks for posting this information, very helpful.

Welcome, and congratulations on your RP-179 acquisition! Thumbs Up

We had a similar issue, but different outcome. After a week long campout in our new 179 the frig started beeping in battery and gas. Went home and tried electric. Still beeping. Stored pod for a week with the battery disconnected. Took it to RV repairman. He couldn't find the problem. Camped a week after that and had no problem. Mechanic and I suspect when I disconnected the battery and all power the fridge reset itself.
Welcome to this brilliant group of experience.
Happy Trails, Gar
