Pod in a pod? I'm getting visuals of those Russian nesting dolls, but with a smaller R-pod inside of a bigger R-pod, inside of a bigger....

Never having frequented a "commercial" campground, we know what to expect in terms of media access

and technical support from the Florida State Parks System- Zip! We also have absolutely no problem with

that.

We do enjoy morning news when the Tailgater can find the signal, and a DVD in the evening is nice from time to time.

If there is a 4G cell close enough, a mobile hot spot gets us internet access if we need it.

Most of out time, however, is spent relaxing and walking with the Campin' Cocker Spaniels.

Music, always at a respectful level, is an important component of the "relaxing", so I have re-allocated

a Bose Sound Dock to the R-Pod inventory, and I have loaded up one of our iPods with Classical, Jazz,

and Blues playlists. (I left out the Rock, since it has to be played too loud.) I guess that makes it an

"R-Pod iPod". It makes chillin' in the R-Dome a beautiful thing.

Nothing wrong with that Goody2Shz. I know the flat screen that came in ours new is not much, but we don't watch much tv. I like to watch the weather and local news. When the day is done Donna and I watch DVD'S of Andy Griffith, Big bang theory, and silly things for about 30 minutes, then we get the Bobble head and its lights out. I love the fresh air and walking and cooking outside and keeping the fire going, when night time comes we are worn out and looking forward to lights out.

No television in our pod. We were going to mount the over-the-bed one that came with it, but nixed that. I am a died in the wool through-and-through geek/nerd maximus. Grew up and worked in Silicon Valley. Gimme a laptop, a wireless signal, and I'm good to go. No wireless signal? I have my iPad. I have a portable (and very compact) solar battery to run all my toys. I guess I'm not much of a real camper, huh?

I used to tell people that "roughing it" to me was no room service. LOL

I think I'm moving beyond that, but I still need my geeky stuff.

Here's my two cents worth. Specifically deleted the TV and antenna when we ordered ours built. Instead of tv we stay at locations that offer cable access. We bring a laptop computer and with a USB adapter, connected to the cable we can watch our news programs or any other cable provided content on the computer. With a laptop we also have access to my office thru WIFI. Works fine. Hope that helps. Safe Travels.

Can't speak for DirecTV. We had it for many years, but had some hassle that I can't even remember now,

and dumped it for Dish.

For Christmas, we got the Dish Tailgater for the 'Pod. (I've posted the details somewhere else on the Forum.)

Works some places, other sites have an impenetrable tree canopy, so I can only say it's a good idea with a

marginal execution. I'm glad we have it, but it's not the total answer to RV tv.

Jdub- The over-the-bed media console is Forest River's attempt to elevate the R-Pod 177 / 178 above the ordinary,

and it doesn't. It is, not to put too fine a point on it, a piece of crap. Your 178 offers the opportunity

to mount a flat panel in the console to the left of the entry door where it is viewable from the settee.

I would guess it would accommodate a 22" or so, but your selling dealer should be able to call FR to verify.

Ditto, I haven't tuned in a tv channel since before the switchover. Directv at home. Only used the pod's tv for the dvd player - and only the kids have done that. That said, I got a new LCD tv at home three months ago. My old one did not have a digital tuner, but the new one does. Just in case - all the satellites could be junk if we get a really good solar flare some day and I'll need to tune in to the airwaves to find out what happened.

Doug, thanks for the input. I haven't used air channels for years except for the Pod. I wasn't sure the Pod TV was 'standard' or some RV deviant. I use DirecTV in home - a simple HDMI connection.

Bill, all tvs are now digital and must do a scan to work. Most modern ones do a scan as part of the setup process.
