I've never owned a trailer before and I'm about to pick up my new 172. I do a lot of cold weather camping and have concerns about early and late season water use. Can I use a water jug as a water source rather than the fresh water tank, but use the sink drain and grey water tank if I keep anti freeze in it? I'm talking temperatures into the teens.

In a pinch, I've used RV antifreeze to operate my pod toilet, but then the toilet has no traps and it is "sometimes" easy to dump the tank upon arriving home.  However, I prefer to bring a portable, poop-in-a-bag, toilet setup for cold weather camping here in MT because the aforementioned antifreeze in the toilet method is sometimes messy and, in extreme cold, difficult to flush out of the black water tank.

I would leave the rest of the water systems alone.  The pod does not have an insulated undercarriage and the traps can freeze pretty quickly below 20 F.

Thanks a lot for the input. I was thinking I would not use the toilet, but it would be nice to use the sink. That way I could cook, wash dishes and brush teeth inside, but go to the bathroom outside.

Leave it winterized, flushing the toilet with antifreeze and capturing any waste water in the sink with a removable basin. Even if you put antifreeze in the sink trap the water you put into the gray tank will freeze solid and crack it.
