Topic: Newbie 177 question - water drain and tiresPosted: 03 Nov 2015 at 5:34pm |

thanks! that's a good site for tire info! I appreciate it!
I'm going to ask the service shop about the tires in a few weeks when I take it in to be winterized (since I'm not quite confident enough to do it myself yet). |

+1.....I read the same thing. I've just completed 6 years of service on my tires and will be replacing them before my first trip next spring. My personal opinion is that 6 years is fine as long as the tires have been properly maintained. In your situation (not knowing the history), if the money is there, I think I would replace them - just for peace of mind. The thought of having to change a flat tire on the shoulder of an interstate highway does not thrill me - especially if it is on the left side. Here is some interesting information on trailer tires - trailer tires It's a judgment call only you can make. |

It's good the valve is turned sideways like it is. It looks like it might be okay, but, like I said, it's awful easy to just unscrew the cap.

If you spend anytime in the Southwest, you want to change the tires every 4 years. The weather & sun is rough on tires & batteries.

The tire replacement recommendation from Trailer Life Magazine is 6 years, and I've heard that number from other sources over the years. Now at 5 years certainly can't hurt. You should consider replacing the spare, too, but many don't.

They do have an HRE, so the drain is way farther from the road then ours...

It sounds like a very convenient modification, and it may never be a problem, but if it sticks down further than just a cap on the pipe, it's something that could get scraped off going over a speed bump, for example. You could end up with no water when you need it and no easy way to fill the tank. The tank itself could even be damaged if the valve is ripped off. Of course I can't see it from here, and you might be fine, but with just a screw-cap on the drain, you can take it off and put it back on by hand, or with a pair of pliers at the most, so the added convenience of a valve is probably of little value. ah, found the drain. there was a modification done with a valve and I wasn't sure that was it, but it was, so it's draining now!
