If you put a different antenna up there, it will need a matching amplifier, but it should work about as well as the OEM antenna.

The 2016 183G that we picked up a month ago does not have an antenna on it. I can see where the antenna was, but it has been removed and the roof patched. I pulled the radio a couple of days ago and it looked like the antenna had been leaking in the past, so I assume a previous owner just took it out.
My question is has anyone just used a portable TV antenna that you could just sit on the roof once parked and run a coax down to the antenna / cable in on the camper? Will the antenna amplifier send power back to this port if I want to use a boosted antenna like this? I could purchase and reinstall an antenna where the old one was, but not sure I want to put that hole back in the roof. Thanks in advance!
