We have a new 2017 rpod 179 that we pull with a GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 v8. The trailer is constantly fishtailing 4 to 5 inches with any wind or uneven road conditions. It is not heavily loaded when we travel. Has anyone experienced this condition and found a remedy for it ? Thanks for any ideas ohardy ------------- ohardyIII |

Are you using Weight Distributing Bars and Sway bars? They make a world of difference. Also make sure that any weight you ARE carrying in the POD is in the front end near the hitch. Check your tires. Low air will do this. And - of course - don't speed. |

I cant help, my 172 totally stays put behind me, ive never seen it move even an inch. I dont have anywhere near the T.V. you have, i tow with a Nissan Frontier 6 cyl, but i do use WDH. That might be the difference, also, i have carlisle radial tires and make sure they are at 65 p.s.i. frequently. ------------- 2017.5 Rp-172 2020 R-pod 195 2015 Frontier sv 4.0L 6cyl I'll be rpodding |

That said, you may have the weight distributed incorrectly or some other thing. I would first weigh the R-pod, and the tongue weight and make sure you're within normal limits. The R-179 should weigh between 2,800 and 3,800 pounds, with "about" 10% (280-380 lbs) on the tongue. Depending on how the rig is loaded, the tongue weight could be as much as 15% (420-570 lbs). So to rule of thumb it, expect ~~ 300-550 lbs on the tongue. If you're outside of that zone, then you may just need to move things around. If you're inside that zone, then you might very well consider a WDH, or anti-sway, or both. We pull our R-179 with a Fastway E2 WDH which provides mild anti-sway in addition to the weight distribution, and we see zero sway or fishtailing. Bama, I believe you nailed it. The tongue should be level or slightly tilted down toward the front of the pod. With your pick up it may be 'nose up.' You can easily remedy that by getting a draw bar for your ball that has a drop so that your pod will sit level when hitched to your pickup. When I have ours hooked up to our '94 F-150 I needed a hitch bar that had a 4" drop to make it sit level. The shank is the part that fits into the receiver. The hitch is bolted to the shank. There are lots of shank sizes available in one inch increments to enable you to tow with the rpod as level as possible. Our Expedition uses a 7 inch drop shank in order to make the pod level. I use sway and load control. Pulling with my Jeep Unlimited I cannot tell it is back there as far as controlling the sway. I am looking forward to pulling it this weekend with my Colorado Crew Cab. I will have to check the load control to make sure it is in line with the truck/trailer.
Somebody mentioned tongue weight. I check my weight on every pull. Take me just a few minutes. | We bought a 170 last summer and had serious bouncing and sway problems. I bought a wdh from etrailer and put it on my self. It made a world of difference. No bounce at all now. I also bought the sway bar. I don't recall but I think it was $35 from etrailer through amazon prime. It was more effective than the wdh. We just completed a three week up the California and Oregon Coast and I didn't even know the rpod was there. Both add on pieces of equipment worked much better than I expected. |

178, no sway bars, no WDH. Doesn't sway at all. We keep out speed down. Pod is well-loaded. Have more than sufficient vehicle to pull it--power and vehicle height. Pod is dead-level when hitched. ------------- <0> 2017 178 The "eye-Pod" 2011 Nissan Titan |

Hello, We have a 2017 179 also and pull it with a Ford F150. We had a minimal amount of sway at first. I added a friction type anti-sway bar and the problem went away. It was very inexpensive and easy to install. Hope that helps Jim & Cheri |

Pulled the Pod with my Colorado Crew Cab. No problem at all with sway so the sway bar did its job. One thing I did notice that the bounce from front to back was a little more noticeable on my truck. Lot of effort into getting your TV and TT balanced and running safely. TW is very important as is balancing the capability of your TV to the load. I read a post this AM from a member who said Pods don't require a WDH or a sway bar, that's an opinion but not one I agree with. I've towed a lot in my time and every experience has been different. End of the day, I think I have the Pod towing pretty standard, not changing a lot anymore. As mcarter and Jim&Cheri already said, properly using a friction sway bar will eliminate the sway. Unless you are towing with an undersized tow vehicle (and you aren't) and aren't balancing your trailer incorrectly, you should have no need for a weight distribution hitch, given your tow vehicle.
