Just discovered something with our new this year 179. If I use a battery powered drill with a socket on the jacks, I can raise them up until the drill stops. But if I then use the hand tool, I can raise the jacks another two inches which really improves the ground clearance.

Just be sure you're not lifting the entire camper (meaning, wheels off the ground) when you raise the stabilizers that much. You are risking tweaking the frame. I use my cordless drill, but stop when the stabs hit the ground and go up just an inch or less.

The rule of thumb is crank until they touch the ground, then 1-2 more turns, tops. If you are raising it by "inches" you shouldn't. The frames on the pods are lightweight and the stabilizers are designed to stabilize and not to jack. You risk damaging the frame or a stabilizer.

I've found the same thing using a drill, the drill stops a bit before the stabilizer is fully retracted. I think it depends on the drill, if it has adjustable or variable speed. You'd want to have that at lowest setting anyway, I just push the stabilizer up a bit after the drill stops.

I stand corrected! My mind interpreted that as the pod being raised up...

Ditto. Makes sense now. My cordless has no problem completely retracting the stabilizers, however. |

Meant retracting. Drill is a Harbor Freight special just for the pod so that may explain it.

I'm with CFWARREN, mine stop an inch or 2 from retracting to the max. But, I just reach down and push them up the rest of the way and give it another turn or two with the drill.
