oh woe is me. Hope someone can help !

the entire "drain assembly" on my fresh water tank has been torn off the tank. Not sure how this happened ,since other things hang far lower. My dealership tells me there is no alternative than to replace the entire tank. Has anyone had a similar problem ? Does anyone think there is a simpler way to repair this ? Not only would their solution be expensive and take a long time, but the thought of all the disconnecting, shoving things around ,and then reconnecting things so everything is secure and works properly kind of scares me. my pod is a 2011 171. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks.

So sorry to hear this...but, I agree the entire system should be replaced. If the drain connection was ripped of the POD, it is very likely the tank is damaged as well. Get some other estimates on the repair and compare. Good luck!

Do you have any pictures?  If it's not damaged too badly, you may be able to drill it out using a hole saw and install an expanding plug in it's place.  You might get a little wet whenever you drain it, but it would certainly save the expense of a complete tank.

Also maybe, depending on the type and severity of damage a patch could be planted on there. That could be difficult because of the curved bottom. Or if you could find a shut off gate that doesn't need access to the back side. May be hard to find such a thing but this all depends on the damage.  Simplest would be an expanding plug with a drain/vent in it so you wouldn't have to pull the plug out each time.

I like the expanding plug idea.  If you can post a pic maybe we can help with a cheaper solution like that.

However, even if the whole tank needs to be replaced, it isn't a huge job so don't let them tell you that.  The only hard part is getting the old tank off, the mounting of which can be done various ways, so without more pics it is hard to say how it should be removed.  There are only 3 hose connections which take less than 5 minutes to disconnect (water in, water out, and vent).
