Question...probably silly, but I can't figure it out!  On the 178, does the furnace only run on propane?  Or can it run on electric as well?

I'm sure propane is the answer to your question.  Propane is the only source of heat from the furnace, but it also uses a lot of 12v battery power.

A little 120v heater from Walmart for $15 can be plugged in when you have shore power and it will keep the pod toasty.

Some air conditioners also have heat strips I think, but I haven't heard good things about them.

The pods furnace runs on propane, the fan and brain on 12v. It is the largest propane user, and only second to running the fridge on 12v as far as battery usage.

Almost all podders who camp when heat is needed, and with hookups, use a small 1000-1500 watt space heater.
