Topic: 2015 RP-178 Shelf Over Bed w/ Baskets Mod Posted: 02 Jun 2017 at 1:17pm |

I need a new shower curtain rod for my home and I had the thought to use two curtain rods to span the width over the bed, then rest the shelf on the curtain rods. Any thoughts on a good, or bad idea? I found curtain rods on Amazon that will extend long enough and can support 30 lbs each.

Hi all, just wanted to share my results with the shelf mod. The shower curtain and pads worked great. I didn't crank down the rods so there was a lot of pressure and the shelf held well. The valances don't bear any weight, and are attached with small screws. I took the valances off and set the pads on the top edge of the window frame (not pictured). Very sturdy.

Does the shelf and/or the baskets block light from the two ceiling lights over the table?

The shelf is over our bed and it doesn’t block too much light. The shelf is vented which allows for light through the slats.

I found it at Lowe’s. HD didn’t have anything that would work.

Hello !!!! I am hoping to create this same ventilated shelf of my 171. The only ventilated wood shelves I can find are 72" but my space is 74.25. Thus, the expanding foot is excellent, however, I can't tell if you have yours on both ends ?

I found the shelf blocked a fair bit of light from the fixture at night so I just put a metal strip under one of the wooden slats and installed a magnetic battery operated led puck light...works great and the AAA batteries last reasonably long Great for reading at night
