Topic: 2014 176 holes in floor not sealed at all Posted: 29 Sep 2014 at 2:54pm |
Hello, Lowes has spray foam by DAP called DAPtex plus that is soap & water clean up. Works great, we sealed both our back doors in our house and cleaned up with a little soap and water. Cost $1-$2 more than the other foam that you can't get off your skin. Well worth the extra $

Good to know, cause as Sean just demonstrated, that stuff is like carrying a box of mines into an MRI.

I'd be leery of using the latex foam in a floor penetration that is guaranteed to get road spray on it. The latex foams are open cell rather than closed cell like the polyurethane foams and can absorb and retain moisture. Not a good thing when applied to wooden floor penetrations, could cause rot after awhile.

No need for confusion- just use the "normal" expanding foam- Great Stuff is the most popular brand

I would forward those pics to Rodney Jarnagin ( rjarnagin@forestriverinc.com ) he's in the warranty dept.
That's what we did with all the problems we came across. Not sure what he'll do about it, but at least maybe the next rpod owner won't have these things wrong with theirs. It's unbelievable that they don't think anyone will find these mistakes. The little things we fixed and the bigger more expensive things our dealer fixed. Hope this helps

NLpod Thanks for posting the pictures. We will be winterizing our pod for the first time. We checked from underneath for unsealed areas. Will need to look more closely inside to make sure everything is sealed. One place we have looked (out of curiosity) was in the air vent that is beneath the interior door to our wet bath. They did seal the pipe from the drain going down yeah!

Nothing new with this problem. I used about 4 cans of expanding foam to fill all the holes in my 2011. My main reason for buying the R-Pod was for winter camping. The first time I tried it cold air gushed in. I had to cut holes in the panel under the shower pan to get to all of them. All of the vent pipes had at least a 1/2 inch gap around them. Plus the fridge had gaps at the top and bottom. It appears they cut 1.5 inch holes at the factory to install 1" pvc pipes.
Once I filled all the holes it's warm as toast. But ya...Forest River quality control is lacking in this area.
