Good info.  Were you having issues starting it with a generator?

Interesting (tho, unfortunately, I don't know beans about things electrical). By "hard start cap", I'm guessing you're referring to a capacitor, yes?

So, questions come to mind.  Like, how do you know if you need one?  What problem is it solving?  Could everyone (with an A/C) use a mod like this?

Thanks in advance.

It gives a little more boost to the "starting load" of the a/c compressor, for some, it will allow an underrated generator to start the a/c. Running it isn't usually an issue, just getting past the surge load need at start up is.

Yep i was having issues getting my generator to start my ac compressor, unfortunately the cap wasnt quite enough to fix the issue but it definatly helped.

Thanks all .. Very informative discussion.  Ditto on the link to modmyrv (http://www.modmyrv.com/2009/05/27/rv-air-conditioner-hard-start-capacitor)

This looks like a really useful mod to keep in mind if hard starts, especially with a gen, ever become a problem.

Thanks again.
