CAUTION. Fun overload ahead. Check wallet level and proceed with expectation. Wink

We drove up and took the ferry back to Maine.  Both were cool.

Hi John,

Good question! I know it's a bit controversial but we carry the genny in the back of the TV under cover (Yamaha Cover). Never even noticed it the entire trip. It had a full tank when we left and 3/4+ when we we returned. I used it for a total of two hours maybe, if that. My battery setup was a pleasant surprise - dual 230 AH GC2s. The longest dry camp we did on this trip was five nights and batteries did just fine. We are careful and spent most of the time exploring outside of the pod. No Television but did run CPAP 12v. every night. The only reason I even fired up the genny was for wife's hair dryer - really. The rest of the trip, we were towing pretty long distances between stops for batteries to recover or had hookups. I carried a new 2 gallon gas can, but never used it.

An aside, a five gallon bucket with a lid was invaluable for emptying grey water tank as needed as was a couple of collapsable 5 gallon tanks for filling fresh water. We consistently used 10 gal fresh water per day with showers and 15 when wife washed her long hair. The five gallon bucket was a great way to measure usage. Yeah, we were not as careful with water as we were with electric.

More than you asked for, but now you know the rest of the story...Smile

fred

Why is it controversial to carry the generator on the back? We have been trying to figure out how to transport a generator for dry camping.

Some folks are concerned about fumes and/or fire risk in collision.

Oh! I guess that would be a risk no matter where you put it. Much less control over that if it is in the back, I see. There really isn't a great place to keep it is there? Thanks!

Fred> Thanks for the answer and the other great advise. We had planned on carrying our Honda's in the TV since the gas cap has a closed off switch and the gas can on the hitch area of the rv trailer.  We need the AC for our Golden otherwise we would be like you and also us a fan. Thanks again

I wouldn't worry about carry a genset on the front or back.  I carry mine on the front of my TV, shown here:  http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3689
