I made a simple 30 amp electrical tester that will show the line voltage as well as check polarity and ground.  I used a male 30 amp plug, a standard 120 volt receptacle tester and a digital voltmeter with a standard plastic electrical box and a standard 120v receptacle. I will use this to test any power source that I plug the R Pod into.

By golly that DIY unit will work, I just use a Camco tester and surge protector. I generally unplug during a storm. Yes I realize stuff can happen, but that has been my strategy for years with a lot of different campers. So far, so good.

Second pedestal fault in 6 months detected by Hughes Autoformer

In February the Autoformer indicated a ground fault so I moved sites.

Pulled in to a KOA last Saturday and plugged the Autoformer into the 30-amp socket to check the pedestal before connecting the R-Pod (as always) and it showed an open neutral.  20-amp also showed an open neutral.  Walked over to the office and office guy radioed maintenance immediately and by the time I had walked back he had already hooked up a 50-to-30 dogbone to the Autoformer Shocked

No faults showed up so I just went with it (campground was full of course).  Worked fine...no conflagrations resulted Cool

I asked maintenance guy if this was a known issue with this pedestal and he said yes Shocked

He then taped over the 20- and 30-amp sockets with a message that they weren't working and to borrow a 50-to-30 dogbone from the office if needed.

Just another cautionary tale from the world of RV electric...

I guess if they can’t get away with electrocuting you with an open neutral they’ll happily burn you up by injecting 50A into your 30A circuit. Where is this KOA so I can be sure I never ever stay there?

It must be the goats' fault, they like to chew on wire insulation. We used goats to keep down the grass on a solar farm and found that out. Sheep work better. LOL

OMG...thank you so much for sharing and happy to hear no one was seriously injured.  New to TT and had no idea this was an issue.  Ordered my tester to have w/ me on all my future trips
