What in the heck is that thing? ---- I thought to myself a couple years ago when I pulled up behind an rpod at a stoplight on the highway to Yellowstone park thru our fair Wy town. Hmmmm, Hood River rpod, sounds and looks cool.... I might actually want to leave my tent for one of those.....and then I saw the total inside package and was hooked. Boy they are expensive though. Plus they make people smile, so that helps to offset cost a bit.
It took me long enough looking and watching and waiting for a good deal to come along, but an rpod 177, 2013 model, now sits out next to my horse trailer. We captured the frog with excellent help from Vic at Blue Dog RV in Post Falls. I can't imagine dealerships get better than those folks. I pulled her home with a f-250 super duty v10 so no tow problems there. It towed like it wasn't there, really. Other than black ice and ice fog for the first hundred miles east of Cour'delane, five mountain passes, 600 miles total one way, and then the high wind warning from Livingston, Mt on down to Cody, wy. I pulled her at 70-75mph until I hit the high winds, which I was very worried about due to the extreme light weight and tongue hitch. I've pulled big heavy goose neck horse trailers loaded in fifty mile per hour cross winds OK, but this little lightweight rpod worried me. I slowed to 60 mph in the 40mph crosswinds, and everything was fine. We slipped thru the wind just fine. Stopped for gas and had a couple smiling people come over and admire and ask questions. We've been learning the systems and playing around with it a bit, but it's 5degrees outside right now and not exactly conducive to learning the total trailer. The main gripe I've got is that Forrest River can't afford to put out a dedicated rpod owners manual. Someone needs to contact Warren Buffett about that. I'll likely be needing advise from this great site on something come spring. I've already learned a lot here pre-purchase, and a little bit post=purchase. Thanks for inputting info folks. It does matter to someone like me. Do frog owners have some sort of special Harley rider type wave or other greeting I need to know about when meeting one going the other way on the highway? Should. Guess I'll figure it out, but it's very cool to be a part of this owners group. Kindred r-spirits. Best regards to you all. Hope to see you at some trail head sometime. SR |

Welcome. Now you just need to head east in august for the big frog rally in Indiana. Rpod village will be waiting. I'm looking forward to that rally again this year but this time in a rpod 179 as long as a few loose ends get figured out at work in the next week or so.

Welcome. Look for a home-grown "manual" in the link in my signature.

Welcome! Those winds can be nerve racking. We make the Tahoe-Ft. Collins route yearly, but last summer was the first time with the pod. We were happy with the hitch we added just to make sure we were safe hauling through the basin. Enjoy your new toy - makes camping in bear country feel a bit more secure:)
