Topic: Black water flush clogged Posted: 11 Jun 2013 at 11:24pm |
After my last trip I tried to flush the black tank, but when I turned on the water nothing happened. It was silent and no water was flowing. I thought for sure that the check valve was clogged, but when I tested the check valve separately it worked fine. So my next thought is that the sprayer itself is blocked. Is that possible? Has anyone else had that happen? Any tricks on how to un-block it? My first thought was to hook up the air compressor and try to blow it out (my water pressure here is at most 30psi). Would it harm anything to put 60-80 psi of air on there to try and clear the blockage?

Finally solved the black water issue. I tried blowing it out with air pressure (using a bike pump) and that didn't work. I had to remove the 90 degree fitting and then clear the blockage with a wire. The "flusher" is just a cap with a stub (no more than 1") that has a tiny hole in one side. It's really pretty primitive. I thought it would be longer and have more holes (like a sprinkler). Oh well, hopefully this helps someone else if they run into the same problem.

I agree it is odd the sprayer isn't more developed.

If I was the designer, I'd put one of those rotating dishwasher arms inside the tank.

So far, as of yesterday, ours works fine. However, since we really have some very clever and creative Podders who contribute, I wonder if after removing the stub another commercially available "flusher" could be added. Possibly, we are looking at a once in a blue moon problem. Just a thought. Safe Travels.
