Our RP 175 didn't come with A/C and except for one hot weekend in the dank, wet Pacific Northwest, we haven't felt the need. Well, next year is our 50th anniversary and we're planning an extended trip to the Southwest (No way I'm gonna go on a cruise with all that's been happening!).
 
Most anything with the name Dometic on it hasn't worked too well for me. All three Dometic A/C's we've owned were loud  and one even dripped inside. So, it was which Coleman? I had a Polar Cub 9200 installed. It isn't as stylish as the Dometic, but boy, is it nice and quiet in comparison. Also it comes with a soft start that people have reported enables it to run nicely with a Honda 2000 or a Yammer 2000 like mine. A little research, the nicely insulated Pod, and a recommendation from the installer makes me feel that the Polar Cub will work well for us. Here's hopin'.

I think Techntrek was looking at this one. I think it will work fine. Both the 11000 and 13500 btu ac that come with the pod are overkill. imho.

I completely agree with this.  We've only used our AC twice and both times it cooled it down really, really fast.  With the size of the Pod's you can get away with a smaller unit if you want to.

I'm jealous - I want the quiet A/C. I jump out of my skin when ours kicks on.

If you set the fan to run on low or high all the time at night it's less of a noticeable noise when it kicks on each time.

It's the only way I've learned to sleep through it.  And that's only after the first night or readjusting to it.

Yeah, the install tech sealed the decision for me. He thought that the 9200 size was very appropriate for the Pod, said that the initial cool down would be some slower, but that the 9200 would then not cycle on and off as often--which he said is preferable. We're prolly not gonna take a mid-summer trip to the hotlands, so we won't be the anvil for the sun's hammer. Also, we won't overstress the A/C for most of our local trips even in the summer. Again, I  hope I haven't added to my plethora of financial mistakes!
 
Incidently, I didn't even consider the extra $ for the add on heating unit. We've had 2 and neither put out enough heat to be worth the expense. A space heater does better at warming.

Keeping the compressor running longer during each cycle allows for better humidity control, which is more important for comfort than temperature.  Yes, even 11,000 BTUs is overkill for the pods, 9200 is better but I'd even prefer a bit lower.

Definitely interested to hear how this one works out, I might just buy one.

I have a 5000btu AC in my living room which is twice the size at least of the pod and that is plenty.

Kickstart - have you had this installed yet?  I'm really curious how loud it sounds to you, and how well it cools.
