Hello fellow campers,
Husband and I and two dogs want to take a road trip to Acadia National park.  Think we can manage a 2 week trip.  Would love to hear from anyone that can point us to the best spots to camp along the way and once there.  We do not mind cold camping.  In fact would prefer that opposed to camping single file in a more commercial park.  We are just now starting research on this trip and hope it's not too late to reserve some good spots
Thanks in advance

We went to ME two summers ago, and spent the night on the road at a Wal-Mart. Embarrassed

did you stay at wal-mart cause you couldn't find anywhere else or for convenience?  haven't made reservations yet and don't really want to be stuck to a schedule but may have to in order to get a campsite.  last thing I want is to spend half our time looking for the "perfect" site.

We also stayed at Salisbury Beach State Park in Mass. crowded but the beach is great.

We also stayed at a nice campground outside Boston did some site seeing in the city and around the area.

We were using our Little Guy tear drop back in our pre-RPOD days.

My use of Walmart (or similar places like truck stops, Cabella's, etc), and of most people that stay there, is because its quick in-out from the highway, late arrival isn't a problem, and restocking is easy.  In other words, I only do it when I'm on my way from point A to point B and can't do it in one day, so I can pull in to the closest one at 11 pm when I'm done and pull out at 8 am.  With the bonus of not paying $30 for the 9 hour stay.

One of my favorite places of all time is Acadia...well all of Maine.  Enjoy!  Sounds great!
