Interstate battery replacement

David, good idea on coating the terminals, the charger may get its QRM from multi vibrator circuit changing ac to ac, being a ham you understand. I think you have a great idea, put in the second battery put it in paralel with the main and that would be ok, but I think they make an isolator (maybe a hi capacity diode) that will let battery number 2 charge, but not let it drain back into the main battery or associated circuits when not charging, this keeps battery number 2 fully charged but will not let it run down in off charging conditions.
