Topic: Generator Posted: 24 Oct 2011 at 7:45pm |
I was talking price, not model number. He showed me the generator he thought I needed, I asked the price, and by the time it would have been in the back of my truck it was just a hair under $2500. I suggested we work out a better price, and he let me know he did not have to. I agreed and left. I didn't have to buy from him either.
I saw a similar Kawasaki unit for nearly the same price. The one I bought is not as slick as the Honda or the Kawasaki. But it should do fine for 10% of the price. If not I can always sell it and get something else.

Guess I need to review the specs/power comsumption rating for the R-Pod A/C unit ...but that really sounds extreme.

I bought a honda Handy 3500 two years ago for my old camper it had a 13.5 a/c unit and I returned it after the first weekend because it had troubles powering the air. I bought 2- 2000 companions and and had no problems with them at all. I also like that you can carry them and put them away without breaking your back. My friend bought the champion and it powered his air with no problems but he had to secure his muffler ,it fell off the first night and the fuel shutoff didnt shut off other than that he has had no issues.

The pod's A/C is fairly energy efficient compared to older models. I measured about 1000 watts running, less than the 1500 watts my popup needed. One 2000 watt genset may be enough especially if you add a larter starting capacitor.

I ran the champion for a couple of hours under load today and no sign of exhaust falling off, and the gas shutoff works fine. I had it running and went around to the other side of the garage and could hardly hear it.
How do the Honda gen sets work when you have two connected to one load? Is there a cable to synch them or something? They could be out of phase, and if enough out of phase could create a short circuit and fry things.
