We went campground scouting Saturday and found a very unique place where we will surely visit before the season is over and hopefully for many seasons to come.  It's called Four Paws Kingdom and it's dedicated to camping with your dogs!  If you have small children, skip this post, you won't be interested in it because they don't allow them.  But if you camp with your canine friend, read on...We met Bridgette, the owner.  Wonderful lady originally from Germany (cool accent).  She's proud of their campground.  You can tell by the way she talks about it and by the way everything looks.  We were allowed to explore the entire area which includes lots of doggie playgrounds, agility courses, swimming pond and fishing pond, and the campsites.  This campground is probably way off route for most of you on this forum, but you have to check out their website.  This place is about 75 minutes from our house.  20 minutes from the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area.  45 minutes from Asheville.  They have lots of activities throughout the year which includes the dogs which is great for us since we have 3 Dachshunds that camp with us.  Here is their website:  http://www.4pawskingdom.com/index.html

That's amazing that you mention this campground, we just booked 4 nights there in a few weeks.  Chimney Rock is our halfwayish point on our way down to Hunting Island and my wife found their website.

We've spoken with Brigit and the enthusiasm alone that she shows when you book a reservation has already made us love this place.  I think we spent more time on the phone talking about our dogs and their breeds and names and how cute they are than we did actually booking our site.

The DW's thought was after making the doggies ride 7 hours in the car they deserved a halfway point that was catered to them so they could run and play for a few days.

The reviews of this place at tripadvisor.com alone could sell it.  We're very excited to spend some time there and are already trying to plan another fur-baby centered camping trip next year for there.

Can't wait, you're very lucky to be so close, this place seems like a Gem.

kymooses - May I ask when you guys plan to be at 4 paws.  We would like to spend a long weekend there soon and think it would be great to meet fellow podders and their pups!

Let's see we're actually there a bit less than I thought, but we'll show up sometime Thursday Sept 15th and stay Thursday Friday and Saturday.  We'll head out early Sunday morning for the 2nd half of our drive to Hunting Island.  We'll be at Chimney Rock one day and then I'm not sure about the other, maybe just a day at camp with the doggies!

I'm pretty excited, I read that Saturday Night is and Asian Potluck hosted by the campground.  The DW is not so happy as she does not like Asian food though.  LOL

A shame they don't allow kids between 3 and 13.

kymooses - we just may see you there!  We like to take a trip every other week if possible.  If the hurricanes stay away, we would like to try a weekend at 4 paws.

techntrek - what is a shame for one person is kind of a blessing for others.  I'm not really a kid person and will find it refreshing to camp without kids running around the CG.
