Farkle

Game Rules

Ten Thousand (also known as Farkle) is played by two or more players. Each player takes turns throwing six dice. The player's turn results in a score, and the scores for each player accumulates to some winning total (usually 10,000 - thus the name).

At the beginning of each turn, the player rolls all six dice. After each throw, one or more scoring dice must be pulled down and scored. Scoring combinations are as follows:

One's – 100 points

Five's – 50 points

3 of a kind - 100 points times the face value. For example, three four's are worth 400 points. The exception here is that three 1's are worth 1,000 points.

4,5,6 of a kind – Each additional match doubles the previous score. So four 5's are worth 1,000 points (3x5 = 500, 500 x 2 = 1000). Five 5's are worth 2,000 (4x5 = 1000 x 2 = 2000).

Large Straight (1 thru 6) - 2000 points

Small Straight (1 thru 5 or 2 thru 6) - 500 points

3 Pairs - 1200 points. NOTE: four of a kind and two of a kind does not count as three pairs.

3 consecutive Farkle's - Negative 1000 points

The player may then either end their turn and score the points accumulated so far, or continue to throw the remaining dice.

If the player has scored all six dice, they may continue their turn with a new throw of all six dice, adding to the score they have already accumulated. If none of the dice score in any given throw, the player has "farkled" and all points for this turn will be lost.

Once a player has achieved a winning point total, each other player has one last turn to score enough points to surpass that high-score and win the game.

Game Play Options

Minimum Score
the players must get the specified amount (500, 750, 1000) in a single turn, before they can begin scoring their points.

Play to Score
You can set this value to be 3000, 5000, 7500 or 10000. This is the total score you are trying to reach to win the game.

Farkle Penalty
Players lose 1,000 points when they get three Farkles in a row.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see where a "Farkle" is defined, just that 3 of them in a row has a penalty.

A farkle is when you can't score because you either don't have enough points to bank.

In other words...say you need 250 points to bank.

You roll a 2, 3, 1, 5, 5, 2.  You can count the 1 (100 points) and the two 5s (2 @ 50 = 100 points).  You have 200 points but you can't bank them yet as you're 50 points short.  So you roll the remaining dice and come up with a 2, 4, 6.  You can't count those three toward your bank, so you end up getting a Farkle.  If that happens 3 times in a row, you lose a 1000 points.

It may sound confusing, but it's not that hard to figure out how to play it.  However, you can see it in action if you're on Facebook.  Search for Farkle and play it a couple of times.  The game can be addicting.

Opps . I did a cut and past and I didn't see that wasn't explained. Actually it's just on the first score where you have to sore the min. After you gave the starting score you can score with just one dice if you wanted.

So for example it takes you two turns to score the min score or better, on your next turn you could score on a five and stop till your next turn
