Topic: New R-Pod 177 Posted: 27 Nov 2010 at 6:40pm |
Hello all and Happy Holidays. We just placed an order for a 2011- rp177. We've been camping in our pup since 1981 and thought it's time for a change. Now that our kids are all grown and just the Mrs. and me we want a small TT that we don't have to tug and pull to set up. Our dealer is holding it til Spring for us and we can't wait to get on the road. Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons is in our sights for July.
Our Tow vehicle is a 2009 Grand Cherokee Laredo. It doesn't have a tow package so I'll be having my local mechanic install a tranny cooler and a heavy duty alternator over the winter. Anything else I should do this winter?

Welcome! I hope you like your 177 as much as we like our 175. We're going to do Yellowstone again this spring, but we're coming from the opposite direction--the coast of Washington State. We towed there about 20 years ago when I was teaching 5th grade. I retired out a few years ago after 33 years in 3rd through 8th.Yellowstone is really great with a ton of stuff to take in.
If you're coming west on I 90, as a former fellow educator, I have a place to recommend to you. The Mammoth Site at Hot Springs, South Dakota is one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited. It's well worth any reasonable detour to see. The Little Bighorn, Mt. Rushmore, and The Crazy Horse Monument were also cool, but the Mammoth Site was what really has me eager to return after all of these years. Hey, Google it to see if it's something that might interest you.

Thanks for the tip on Mamouth site, Hot Springs. Looks like I'll be stopping there as well. Already planned enough time for some detours.

This conversation is very interesting to me. We had originally thought we would go to Yellowstone next year, but it would be 4 days of on the road travel and my husband can't be gone too long from work at a time. So now we are looking at South Dakota. Thanks!
