Can't you just slide it into that opening in that cabinet we see with the radio? Maybe extend the depth with a thin piece of stained plywood?

The depth on that cabinet is only 5.5" and the unit (an HR-22 DirecTV receiver) needs about 14".  I'm looking at folding brackets (which could hold a small shelf) that could be attached to the cabinet on both sides of the opening.  That way the cabinet is not compromised when the receiver is not needed.

If I attached a permanent plywood shelf that extends that far out I'm sure that I'd knock myself unconscious some night at 3 AM.

I use Direct tv now in my pod (195) and all I use is an amazon firestick. Then I open a hotspot  connection to my phone, or my tablet, and I watch t.v. with no problem. M aybe i'm wrong, but I dont know why you need anything else.

That cell-service thing can be a bit of an issue.

For myself, I haven’t watched “TV” in 20 years. If you frequent places with a very low but existing cell signal a weboost with a directional antenna does a great job of bringing in Internet. If you are down in a holler and there is no signal then mobile sat data is the only option and that’s very expensive. That’s when you get to enjoy being free of the internet. Read a book or bring some movies for those rainy days and enjoy!

Ha Ha. I'd just watched that movie a couple of weeks ago and thought the scene was appropriate. (btw I read the book first).
