I didn't figure there would be a problem, but one or two reviewers on Amazon complained that the thread size was wrong. I was able to order a 2-pack for the price of a single Suburban-branded one.

I never clean the anode rod. As long as water is in the WH, the anode rod is working. So if you let water set in tank between trips the rod is doing it's job. If you have a high sulphate bacteria count the rod will deteriorate faster. Aftermarket is not important, more important if the rod is magnesium or aluminum, depending upon your water conditions.
