    Posted: 16 Sep 2018 at 6:34pm
This past weekend I ran across a problem with my Suburban Furnace that may have happened last week. Last weekend we were camping.  Turned on the heater in the morning and it was working fine.  After some time running, it shut down.  I tried to restart it shortly after, with no success.  I figured the heater shut down due to being too hot.  I never tried to restart it.

This weekend we headed back out.  This morning it was cold enough to warrant firing up the furnace.  Unfortunately, I never got it to fire up.  I turned on the unit at the thermostat; the fan would start up for 10 seconds.  I would not here the igniter “click, clicking”.  After the 10 seconds the fan would shut down.   No heat, just the fan blowing air.  I don’t think the propane is firing.  The fridge was on propane and we were cooking, so I know we had plenty of gas.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
   Clogged pipe?
   Bad igniter?
   Bad circuit board?
   Gremlings?

Thanks for everyone’s help.
Hope to get this repaired quickly so that we can enjoy some fall camping.
Thanks
Jeff

The RVDoctor site has a few articles on heaters. You might find one of those useful.

I think if fan is coming on the thermostat is closing. Check the air flow switch, common failure point. Not sensing air flow when blower is on. Jato has a good post on issue. It is underneath the inside cover, it's a sail switch.

Simple sequence: Thermostat contacts close, 2. The fan starts, 3. The air flow switch inside the furnace closes, 4. The gas valve opens, 5. The spark igniter fires, 6. The flame sensor verifies gas ignition and you have heat.   Off sequence begins with thermostat contacts open.

So I apologize to the forum.  I never updated the post.  So I went to my local RV repair shop.  They were certain it was one of two issues.
1) Failed over limit switch.  The unit has a switch that if the unit get too hot, it'll shut it down to prevent any problems.  Well, sometimes it does not reset...so then you have a different problem.  New switch $15.
2) Failed gas flow igniter switch (not it's technical term).  I think it's around #4 or #5 on Mike's timeline.  New switch $15.

The third items it could have been is the sail switch on the fresh air.  Mike's #3.  I could visually inspect that when the fan started, the sail switch moved into position from the outside air flow.  Personally, I think it was the over limit switch failure.  It was working when it died.  So I think it got too hot and shut itself down.  The switch never reset.

So the parts are relatively inexpensive.  However the shop told me that the labor was going to be the real issue.  Supposedly, they need to remove the unit to get to where they need to replace these switches.  My memory is a little foggy from some brown water after I picked up the Pod from the shop to try and forget the part at the end where I laid down the plastic.  But the heater works like a dream now.

Sorry for the delay.  I still need to post the pics of my 179 head sink removal.  We are so happy without it.
Thanks
Jeff
