Topic: Factory Recall? Posted: 15 Mar 2010 at 12:51am |
'Techntrek' mentioned in his comments about warranty work that he is having done, about a
'factory recall on properly sealing of four corners underneath'. Is there an actual factory recall?
If so, what models are involved?
If the 'recall' is informal (or single unit), what should I look for to check my Pod for any sealing problems (hopefully before I get water damage)?

From a recall letter I received last fall:
Rpod models with serial numbers L004101 through L005085 may have inadequate sealant under all four corners where the side bottom rails meet both the front and rear bottom rails.
Your selling dealer has been notified of this bulletin so you may want to make an appointment to have this looked into, or you can do the simple re-sealing of the four bottom corners yourself with 650 sealant. The area in question is where the bottom side rails meet in the corners to the rear and front rails. There should be sealant to cover any area of the floor where the rails do not touch one another.
For questions contact Susan Thornberg at (574) 642-3119 x205 or your selling dealer.

I replied later in that thread that I can't find anything about a recall, so I may be mistaken. There were many people talking about improperly installed seals so there should have been one...

When you are describing sealant...my Pod has a white elastic sealant in the seams along the white plastic trim but also has a black coating on the underside of the floor. Which should I
check for being open gap, missing, or leakage? |

Sent you a PM with a photo showing the problem area and missing sealant. This is a picture of the underside of my 172 before the repairs were done. I did them myself rather than haul it back an hour and a half to the dealership.

Thanks for the photo...no missing sealant on my Pod, thankfully. It was warm enough today to
bring out the Pod and spray it with a garden hose. (I didn't want to use a pressure sprayer...thought that would be too much pressure on the seams and decals). Sprayed both the bottom and the rest of exterior. I wadded up some TP and laid a small amount of it where ever I could reach inside. After spraying for a while, I couldn't find any moisture. I had my Pod delivered
late last Fall. It was hauled for about a day in torrential rain and on Interstates. When it arrived,
I couldn't find any leakage! (Usually I am the one who has problems with new vehicles leaking)
I guess it depends on who is sealing the Pods at the factory.
