There is a pizza shop a couple hundred yards from my place that I go to for coffee and shoot the BS. A waitress there got a phone call from home telling her that her sister lost her HS class ring playing volleyball in the yard. She asked me if I knew anyone with a metal detector and I told her I had a couple of them. So I went out to her house the next day (yesterday) to look for it. I had the girl show me exactly where she was when it came off and what she was doing. In about 1/2 hour she had her ring back! One very happy girl...and her father who paid for it!

It's a good feeling when you can help someone like that. Great!

Very cool ending. I lost my class ring 3 months after I got it. On a summer trip with my parents, the popup got a flat along the highway so I got out to help. There were other things on the popup's roof, like a drink, lug nuts, so I took my ring off so it wouldn't get damaged and put it with the other stuff. A mile down the road... "Mom, did you grab my ring when you grabbed your drink?" Went back and walked along the road for a mile. I figure it got under someone's tire and was flung far, far away. I'm hoping to get one of those calls 30 years from now because someone found it and tracked me down (my name was inscribed inside). I'm not holding my breath. |

I don't think anyone will be using a detector out there along the road. But you never know someone might find it the same way you lost it.

I was lucky! I did a get a call from someone 16 years later after I lost my class ring. I now have two, they were ordering ones for the next year and they ordered one for me, even gave me a discount. I thought I lost mine playing tennis, but I guess I lost it at my High School. I got a call from a person who found it and luckily my name was in it.
