TRA Green Certified means a lot but boils down to making sure that the Maker is not being wasteful in how they build the camper.  Take a look at this writeup

It seems like every time someone goes "green", it raises the price up for something they should have been doing in the first place.  The only thing really going "green" is the lining of someone's pocket, and it isn't mine.LOL

I contacted Mike Dolowy at Forest River, and he sent me the following documents to share.  On short notice I don't have a good place to host the files so I'm going to try just posting the contents here...

‘Green’ gives Forest River’s r•pod and Surveyor a sales edge

Two of Forest River’s RVs have been recognized as products of green manufacturing processes and materials, making Forest River one of the first RV manufacturers to have such products certified. Both the new and cozy ultralight r•pod and the Surveyor travel trailer received Gold Rated green certifications from TRA Certification.

TRA Certification, Inc. is an internationally accredited certification organization which provides ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 certifications for Environmental Management Systems. It has extensive experience with many industries globally, including the manufactured housing and RV industries. With the rising environmental consciousness of the RV customer, TRA Certification provides a third-party evaluation of manufacturing processes and materials that applies an agreed-upon set of consensus green standards equally to all RV manufacturers.

The result is a green certification that your customers can trust and which you can tout as confirmation of a unit’s green impact on the environment. The r•pod and Surveyor both sport special insignias indicating their certification status.

Among other things, Forest River’s r•pod and Surveyor were cited for green practices such as recycling water for leak testing and for using eco-friendly insulation that is formaldehyde free and contains recycled glass and sand.

These certifications provide r•pod and Surveyor dealers with another great way to differentiate these outstanding products from the competition and show your customers the value placed on preserving the environment with certifiable best practices and materials. While anyone can claim to be green for one reason or another, you can show customers actual certification insignias so they can compare RVs.

By addressing the need for environmental stewardship that has gripped the consciousness of the buying public, TRA Certification helps the r•pod and Surveyor provide attractive, affordable choices for your customers. Good selling!

What does “Green” really mean?

Green is the result of a process using effective production techniques

in combination with resource efficient and healthy materials to create

products that satisfy consumer needs with minimal environmental impact.

A professional third-party certification agency, such as TRA Certification,

provides the trust factor so important to being green. The categories listed

below help determine how “green” a process and product really are.

Certified GREEN

Resource Efficiency

Factors include: the use of sustainable materials, waste reduction, recycling and reuse of materials.

Wasted or inefficient use of resources equals lost profits. Lean manufacturing and environmental

management systems can produce customer satisfaction and improve the bottom line.

Energy Efficiency

A positive energy strategy includes monitoring, design, construction and appliances. Renewable and

clean sources of energy generated on or off -site, are important factors in the green process.

Water Efficiency

The major goal is the smart use of water. Water reduction is typically achieved through more effi cient

appliances and fixtures.

Indoor Environmental Quality

Being green also means strong attention to indoor air quality. Important factors include:

ventilation, volatile organic compounds (VOC) content in carpet, hard flooring, adhesives,

sealants, cabinets and insulation.

Operation and Maintenance

Green certification by TRA acknowledges that a green assembly is only truly green if the

owners use the green features to their maximum effect. Manufacturers are encouraged to not only use

green processes and materials but also to educate owners on their proper use of the structure.

Innovative Practices

Manufacturers can achieve significantly higher TRA Certification ratings through

new and innovative practices that increase green capability and performance.

Post #3 from Mike (This was an Excel spreadsheet, I'm summarizing it here):

Forest River, Inc. (Surveyor & R-Pod) has achieved a "GOLD" rating.  Possible performance levels are bronze, silver, gold and emerald.

Resource Efficiency = gold
Energy Efficiency = gold
Water Efficiency = gold
Indoor Environmental Quality = emerald
Operation and Maintenance = emerald

"This rating is based on the minimum level achieved in accordance with a 2008 ANSI approved consensus standard. Certain elements of the standard are not applicable such as lot design, preparation and development."  TRA Certification, Inc.
