We pick up our new R178 on June 14. We will tow with a Rav4 6 with tow pkg. And WDH/AS hitch. Previous experience includes tent and larger aframe. Camping venue will be mostly local with one longish distance trip each summer. We are retired and are active community volunteers. We enjoy giving back.

Hello everyone.

My husband and I just purchased a new RP 180 and took it on a maiden weekend voyage to Butt Lake here in Northern California over Memorial Day weekend.  2 miles down a dirt road, lakeside dry camping. It was awesome!  Even after so many mistakes/errors on our part as we learn to use it... We have been tent campers for 40 years!

I have two immediate questions:

1- Does anyone have any suggestions for mounting some sort of net or shelf on the inside back of the trailer to store nighttime essentials -- book, flashlight, glasses, water bottle, etc.?  The RP 180 queen bed only has one sided access so this inside sleeper needs something to contain necessary night time items.

2- We purchased the solar panels, which are also awesome since we plan to do a lot of dry camping. But the cord is really short -- when you camp under the trees you need more flexibility for placement of the panels.  Can you get a longer cord?

Thanks!

Linda

Check my mods (link in signature) for the shelf I put in our 179. The mods section has what others have done as well.

As for an extension, I can't help you with that. I'm sure you can find something online.

Welcome.  You can extend the wiring for a solar panel somewhat, but since it is low voltage you must use large wiring and you can't go too far.  I would add 10 gauge and not add more than 20 feet.

Okay, I've been out twice camping with my new R.Pod 179 (still haven't used the potty)  Ha ha
I'm wondering if there are any R.Pod owners on the Central Coast of California and
2nd message is .......   Anyone camping over the 4th of July and where?
I'm a single looking for friends that want to camp.

I hope you are enjoying your Pod. I can't be of much help with either:

1 - I'm in Indiana
2 - I'll be busy volunteering at one of our State Parks that weekend.

You may want to post something in the Events or Camping Adventures topics. It may be "seen" better - by more. I know there are a few CA campers on the forum. Good luck!

Thank you for the info on the solar panel extension cord.

Hey - those of you who have put up shelves -- do you screw into the walls? They look pretty thin... or use double sided tape or velcro?

Thanks!

Linda
