    Posted: 09 May 2016 at 12:48pm
I took my first trip in my 179 over the weekend and now have issues with my water heater and looking for advice.

It was a dry camping weekend and when we got there on Friday we tested out everything and everything worked even the water heater.  We used hot water to wash the dishes.  What we did notice is that the water did not get as hot as our previous trailer.

Then on Saturday I could hear the water heater turning on but the hot water was lukewarm.  We wound up heating up water on the stove to do dishes.

Then on Sunday the water heater stopped working.  When I turn it on all I hear is humming sound and the DSI Fault next to the switch is red.

I've made sure that it was on gas not electric, made sure that water heater was full of water.
Any things that I can check before taking it to the dealer.

Thanks,
Rodney

Check your winterizing valves, sounds like your by-pass handle might not be turn all the way.

Might be two problems. As Leo B says, the most common cause of warm water is improper setting of the bypass valves. The center cross coupling valve should be closed; the other two should be open.

The failure to ignite may be an air bubble in  the propane line or lack of propane. That can be cleared by running the stove for a few minutes. Once the red error light comes on it must be manually reset by turning the WH off. It will not reset automatically.

Odd that you would hear a humming sound.  Usually you'll hear the DSI click-click-click, then nothing if it faults off.

The DSI fault light comes on briefly when I first flip the switch during a trip and then goes out after a few seconds. Is there a certain amount of time a DSI fault must be detected before a reset is required?

The short red light at first is normal, it stays red until the flame lights.  If the light comes on and stays on, then you need to reset on/off/on.
