Greetings All,

We're towing our 2014 179 with a 2014 6 cyl Jeep Cherokee with the towing package. Seem to get a bit of tail wag. Does anyone else out there have the same combo, and are you having the same issue? If so, have you installed a friction sway bar or other device?

Thanks,
Geoff in CT

WDH with sway control. Problem solved.
Here is what I use:
1. http://www.harborfreight.com/10000-lb-capacity-weight-distributing-hitch-system-67649.html
2. http://www.harborfreight.com/trailer-sway-control-kit-96462.html

There are lots of other options at all price ranges.

Thanks! I'm thinking of starting with the sway control piece first and see how effective that is.

I'm not towing with your TV and I know there are a lot of people here who swear by a WDH, but I decided to just start with the sway bar only, since I wasn't getting porpoising, just sway. And I have been very happy with it.

Of course, we mainly just do weekend trips within a 100 mile radius, so I may have another opinion after our first distance trip next month.

But when you've just sunk a chunk of change into a new Pod it's the few hundred bucks here and there that start to add up!

I think I'm going to do the same thing. I also have a 2006 4cyl Tacoma, which does a decent job towing this trailer. The distance from the tow ball to the axle is greater, so I get less sway. That being said, we use the Cherokee for almost all our trips, which tend to be weekend trips the same as yours. I'll post results when I get the bar installed.

Thanks,
Geoff

I could not imagine towing without a WDH. The ease of towing, the comfort, the piece of mind not to mention safety factor all add up to a VERY big benefit for not too much money. Just sayin.

I'm not getting a lot of sway, just a bit. And my last trailer which was just a bit shorter and lighter spoiled me, since it had no sway at all-none. So in starting with the anti sway, and if I need it, I'll add the WDH.

See the link in my signature for info on sway, WDHs, etc.  First make sure the nose of the pod is level, or slightly nose-down (I prefer the later).  Also make sure you have enough weight on the tongue (10-15% of the total weight).

We have a sway bar only and I've not experienced sway issues with our 171.
