Specifically, it would not light on 12 volts at a campsite at 9200 feet msl. It would time out during the startup sequence. You could hear that the gas solenoid never opens. Connected to 120 volt shore power it starts and runs just fine.
A later test at a lower altitude campsite (6200 feet) had it starting just fine. Any ideas ? The dealer thought he had heard this a few times before. Ken >  |

Did you purge the lines first? and give it a few tries? What was/is the condition of your battery? The the ignition and fan both run on 12v, If your battery is/was low, it can't/won't start. Hooked up to 120v, you have strong 12v provided by the converter, no matter the status of your battery..

We've camped at 9,300' and had no problem lighting the WH, so I don't think the elevation itself would be the cause of your problems (although it might possibly contribute).

Thanks to both responders.
Since it stared an ran fine on gen power, and had been starting okay at lower elevations, I am inclined to look more at what exact voltage is being applied. The battery should have been okay, but I didn't check with a DVM. Good to know that Mountainrev had successful starts at 9300 feet - I'll let everyone know what turns up. Of course it works perfectly at home ! Ken |

Now that I think about it, we didn't have any problem with ours at 8000 feet in Yellowstone.
