I've only made one camping trip in my 2010 171 but I'm considering a trade for a 2015 178.  The reason(s) are: 1) the 178 has the raised axle for additional ground clearance (and I'm going to be in some "gnarly" places occassionally), and 2) my dealer is offering a fair trade.

I wonder if any Pod owners would care to comment about the pluses and minuses?  I'm aware that the 178 is slightly longer, has the slide-out and weighs about 300 lbs more than the 171.  I'm towing with a Silverado so that shouldn't be an issue.

I would appreciate any input.

My only comment is that you can put the axle risers on the 171. I have a 178 so I'm kind of biased there.

I had a 2010 rpod 171 and traded it in towards out 2015 179. I have seen and been in a 178 and you will definitely gain more room and area to move around in.

We love our 177.. but had the 178 been out when we bought, we would probably have one of those.

I think you really covered the important stuff.. It's a little bigger and heavier and newer..

While the one you are looking at already has risers, risers can be added to your current 171, no problem. It's 4 bolts.

Now.. I wouldn't for a moment take a Pod anywhere "gnarly".. it's just not made for that, risers or not..

It's not that "gnarly".  It's a rocky designated camping area near Silverton, CO.

And my driveway has an incline and I drag the rear when I pull out.  I haven't damaged anything as far as I can tell but I'm sure I'd be better off with the risers.

Couple hundred bucks if you have someone else do it.  Less if you can do it.  Adding risers isn't hard, it just takes time and equipment.

All pods should really have risers. Some of those pipes are pretty low and speed bumps, pot holes and bad angles driveways and parking lots could do a lot of damage.

The sale and told me raising the pod would void some of the warranties...😕😕

Risers won't void a thing. The salesman wants to sell you a new pod, not a $150 part.

Ditto, we added riser to our 171 a few years back and it did not void anything.
