We are getting our car wired in anticipation of picking up our new 172. This is a 2012 Toyota Highlander. We have 3 recommended brake controllers from 3 different places. Reese digital, Tekonsha Voyager, and Tekonsha Primus IQ. Does anyone know anything about these or have any experience they would like to impart? Once we have that done, we will need a weight distribution hitch so any advice on what to look for there would also be appreciated. Thanks much.

Hi Jules,
Our 178 came with the Tekonsha Voyager. I found it difficult to calibrate and just didn't "feel right". I put it aside and installed a Tekonsha P3 I noticed a world of difference right away. fred

I'll second Fwunder. I had a Voyager and it was impossible. I replaced it with a Tekonsha P3 and have used it ever since. Go P3.
The Primus IQ is a lower end unit with less display capability. No input on the Reese. |

Sorry I overlooked your question on WDHs. The Fastway E2 WDH is very popular with Podders. I have one and have used it on two TT/TV combos. The 600/6000 pound is adequate. Available at E-Trailer, Amazon, and RV dealers. http://www.fastwaytrailer.com/shop/e2-hitch/ |

thanks everyone. Not sure what I would do without you! Will upgrade the brake controller and look up the WDH. This is all new to us. It almost makes the tent seem good again but once we get going, I am sure we will like it.

I will +1 on the E2 Hitch. I have been happy with mine. The bolts that hold the braceket to the A frame keep loosening off but there was a recent post on here with a work around to fix this that involves putting a shim in the top of the bracket to stop the brackets from twisting as they are a little to wide for the Tounge on the Pod.

Another vote for the Tekonsha Prodigy P3. Excellent adjustability, it will work for very many different weight trailers and a couple of brake types.
