So I just had a look at the interior of our new to us 2009 171 in preparation for de-winterizing it. I hear a little bit of wind whistling and look up to see that the roof vent cover has cracked. Doesn't look like there was any water damage luckily. Where can I find this part (keeping in mind I am in Canada) and how hard is it to replace?

It is a standard 14" cover available in clear, smoked, or frosted at almost any RV supplier, brick & mortar or internet.  Easy to replace, 10 minutes and a screwdriver.

Or in Canada you can get them at Canadian Tire although I don't think they have the clear ones.

Got the ladder out today. I don't see any screws, looks like some sort of clip? Problem is I am short and don't have long arms. Is it safe to crawl on top of my R-pod on my belly? I can't reach otherwise. The little bit I did handle the cover ended up with me breaking a couple pieces off as it is really brittle. I have patched it with a bit of duct tape for now but it won't hold. I found a couple replacement covers at local stores today but none of them appear to have this type of mounting system. Any suggestions?

It's a spring loaded clip. Push down on the spring, while moving the lid away from the hinge attachment. It appears to have the model or part number right there on it.. google that info.

Can't get close enough on a ladder to see it or reach it. Is it safe to climb up on top of the Pod? It didn't feel overly solid up there...

Barring roof rot, there should be no problem.  I was all over the roof of our #179 yesterday afternoon.  I went up the side, using a good ladder.  It sounds like your ladder may be a bit short for that.  I'm not sure I would want to go up either end, but others may have more experience with that.
