Topic: Replacement Tires Posted: 03 Apr 2015 at 12:51pm |
We are approaching another camping season, and I was starting to wonder about replacement tires. I know we haven't hit the 5 year mark on our tires, but I was wondering what others have replaced the originals with. I'm thinking something as aggressive as the original tires, only because of the look they provide with the aluminum wheels. Any thoughts?

You can wait until the 6 year mark, according to something I read in a camping magazine not long ago. Ours would have hit that point this fall and I would have started looking then.

Thanks. I know I'm a little premature in asking about this, but I was just curious if anyone had replaced their tires and with what. When I bought our Pod I remember one comment about having the tires and wheels balanced. Did that, but just passing along the comment. Just followed your script on de-winterizing the Pod and now wishing for warmer weather. Our first scheduled trip is in about a month. Certainly ready for it. How are you enjoying your new toy?

I am with Doug we had our 171 for 5 years and put on 14-16 thousand miles. we had quite a bit of tread on the tires.

Leo, I think we are near the same mileage. Recently de-winterized and took a good look at the tires. Still plenty of tread, but tread not as sharply delineated as when new, and certainly expected. Just doing a little pre-need investigation. Something like the mortuary industry calling about a pre-need. We have used covers for the tires while it was sleeping the winter away. I didn't really look for cracks in the tires, but will do so.

Loving our new toy, although I've put a lot of work into it and have a bunch to go. I still need to replace the bathroom vent + fan, add some shelves, etc....

We replaced our original tires with Maxxix 8008 tires and have had good service from them. We had them balanced and filled with nitrogen. so far they seem to hold with no leaks and we've used them for 2 seasons and about 8000 miles
