Actually the weight of the 3000 can be a benefit, if you will be camping where it may be stolen. I hate that I can't move mine w/o a 2nd person, but then again, neither can a thief (and I removed the handles).

Unless you plan on running the ac the 2000 works well. I have the Honda 2000 & use it as emergency back up for electrical outages (hurricanes & storms & sometimes outage for no reason) here in central Florida.

It seems to make the most sense to get the companion and it's the cheapest option bit it means dual hassle too. I was looking at the 3000 handi model as a possible compromise but again the 2000 companion makes most sense.

Howdy, & welcome to the group. We also have a 2015 171 and, like you, have been boning up on generators. As for your question: If it were me and I already had the Honda 2000 inverter, I'd for sure get the companion rather than step up to the 3000. More capacity in total, less weight when moving them individually, the flexibility of using only one 2K if that's all that's needed. But .. The weight of the 3000 may not be an issue for you plus you might even be able to pair your 2K with a new 3K. I'm not at all sure of the latter point so maybe someone else can give you guidance on that.
Good luck and, again, welcome.
