Actually the weight of the 3000 can be a benefit, if you will be camping where it may be stolen.  I hate that I can't move mine w/o a 2nd person, but then again, neither can a thief (and I removed the handles).

Unless you plan on running the ac the 2000 works well. I have the Honda 2000 & use it as emergency back up for electrical outages (hurricanes & storms & sometimes outage for no reason) here in central Florida.

It seems to make the most sense to get the companion and it's the cheapest option bit it means dual hassle too. I was looking at the 3000 handi model as a possible compromise but again the 2000 companion makes most sense.
