Topic: Mods: dinette seating, pedestal table Posted: 05 Dec 2014 at 10:26pm |
Finally, have gotten a couple of mods done that I can share:
Dinette seating: I wasn't too keen on the light ply under the cushions, so replaced it with some 1/2" ply sealed with polyurethane. Added piano hinges so everything stays where it should. Curb side is shown but I did the mod to both sides. Table: I think the folding mechanism is cumbersome at best, plus felt like seating would be a little more convenient if the table were cut down. I.e., easier for me to get in/out of the dinette seat. So, first, cut off 6". Then replaced the folding legs with a pedestal and used a nifty wall mount to keep it stable when it's being used. When it's going to be made into a bed for the Little Girl (my granddaughter), just lift the table up off the pedestal & wall mount and place it on its rails as per usual. Though the table is shorter, it should still be adequate sleeping spac for one person. Or two if they're real friendly. Table in the normal position: Table in the "bed" position: Killawat: TechnTrek has me convinced this is a good idea. I still want one of those high-dollar surge digital surge protectors that plugs into the pedestal, but this sure beats not knowing & just hoping for the best. Edit: This obviously isn't a "mod"; just a cool gadget I thought was worth mentioning. Other mods: 1. Had a matching second battery installed at purchase. 2. Replaced the mattress. 3. Installed a Sanitube from D&W Inc for the sewer hose. Thinking of a second one for fishing rods. 4. Battery cut-off switch. Haven't installed it yet, though. I'm waffling between it and a heavy duty pull-apart connector. (Like the Anderson connectors). Any opinions one way or the other? Next up: (1) A Roth & Allen shelf from Lowe's that several of you have done. (2) Probably need to do a cooktop cover, too. (3) Oxygenics shower head sounds like a good idea. |

Professional, clean mods. The table mod is going to save you sooooo much aggravation.

Thanks, Cliff. On less aggravation, sure hope so. That folding contraption & my size 12s didn't get along all that well.

Very well done stuff there. Oh and the fancy surge protectors are super cool and nice!

I just added a 30 amp weather proof fuse. Anderson would work well though.

I did the Anderson connection for 6ga wire and soldered it. I like to take my battery inside in the winter. Makes it a little easier. I can also see from a distance if I remembered to disconnect the battery after a trip.

"Oxygenics shower head sounds like a good idea."
The head works great; but the hose fittings are plastic, and the one that fits on shower head shattered last October upon hand tightening, forcing me to put it back together with Gorilla Glue and Gorilla Tape. A few minutes ago, I pulled it out of the sleeping Pod and will run down to Lowes to see if I can find something with metal fittings. |

Headcold, any luck finding metal fittings? Or a stronger plastic connection?

I'm going to Lowe's tomorrow. They have a whole shelf of replacement shower hoses and fittings. I'll let you know what I find and post a picture if possible.

The Oxygenics Spa shower head is great, but be sure to also get a true metal (not plastic with fake metal) spiral wrapped hose and add a brass shutoff. These are available at Lowe's . Problem solved.
